Seasonal Allergies wreaking havoc in your life?

Explore natural approaches to ridding your body of annoying seasonal allergies.

For millions of Canadians, the end of winter is bad news. The endless cold of sniffling and sneezing comes to an end in you and your children. But is only quickly replaced by all that miserable sniffling and sneezing triggered by trees and grasses. Conventional medicine does a great job identifying the allergen, but a poor job in addressing the cause. One in six Canadians suffer from hay fever, or seasonal allergic rhinitis. Allergy season can start in the early spring and last right through to autumn. In some parts of the country, you could suffer from March to November. This year’s allergy season is shaping up to be a tough year for people with seasonal allergies.

Treat the Cause

Allergies are also poorly understood and inadequately treated by regular medicine. Allergic reactions are the result of your immune system over-reacting to pollens and grass. With more than 80,000 chemicals already in our environment and in our body, our immune system is facing a biochemical immune system challenge. When an allergen is introduced in our nose or eyes, the body fights back by creating excess inflammatory chemicals, such as histamine, from mast cells. The body is attempting to remove the allergen resulting in symptoms of runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Antihistamines merely block the action of histamine at receptor sites. They suppress the appearance of physical symptoms but do nothing to treat the underlying cause; which is an overburdened immune system.
