When I say omega essential oils, we are all conditioned to think of fish oil and flaxseed oil. In the last year a number of oils have become available on the market. Many people have taken notice of the oil selection and have begun to mix these oils into their daily food recipes.
1) Hemp Seed Oil: has a 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3. This omega oil combination is very important in preventing and promoting heart health. Hemp oil has proven to help alleviate skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, acne and dry skin. Along the same lines Hemp oil helps strengthen nails, thicken hair and soften skin. We often forget that Hemp oil is the only plant containing vitamin D; vegan cuisine often uses hemp oil as a good source of vitamin D. Finally Hemp oil helps manage degenerative disease including cancer and degenerative brain condition like Parkinson’s.
2) Coconut Oil: has been around for a long time but it has gained a lot of momentum this year as a healthy alternative to butter. It has health benefits that include supporting healthy skin, boosting the immune system, maintaining health cholesterol levels, strengthening heart and decreasing high blood pressure. A lot of research has gone into understanding coconut oil, we have learned that lauric, capric and caprylic acids in the oil are best known for their antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
3) Grape Seed Oil: comes from the seeds of grapes. Grape seeds have a number of medicinal properties that have been used to treat people for centuries. Unlike other oils, grape seed oil has a number of healthy nutrients like polyphenols, flavonoids, EFA’s, vitamin E and proanthocyanidins that make it complete. By adding grape seed oil to your favourite salad and foods your immune system, heart, your skin and hormones will benefit. It is the free scavenging activity of this oil that helps the immune system to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
